Boyeria grafiana--Ocellated Darner, 8 SEP 2002 in Garrett Co. MD, at Muddy Creek and the Youghiogheny River. Ocellated Darner was numerous at these sites, but is generally rare in MD. Comparison photos with Boyeria vinosa--Fawn Darner which is widespread and common in MD, at the same location. Both species, especially the males, spend much time patrolling the stream banks. Ocellated Darner appears quite green-gray in flight. Fawn Darner is a rich warm brown. This difference is readily seen in flight.
